Tammy Cody using post-its to plan a SketchUp lesson.

Planning a 3D Basecamp class in 2022. Can you spot the funny/planted post-it?

My Favorites:

  • My family. Henry (14), Ollie (13) and my partner Josh. They say you shouldn't be friends with your kids... but we have too much fun together!

  • The mountains. Even though we live in a coastal location, I love getting away to the mountains: no cell service, simple days, and the sound of a creek.

  • Travel. I love planning a trip, going on it, remembering the fun, and learning from the challenges. I try to do a little bit of trip planning every day.

About Me (Tammy)

I'm the founder and instructor at SketchUp for Interior Designers. I've been teaching SketchUp for nearly a decade, and I love my job!

My approach to teaching:

I believe in an empathic approach to teaching and support. I try to learn new things often to remember what it is like to feel that frustration, and in turn, I can reverse engineer my teaching skills. (I'm currently learning the banjo... I feel that frustration often!)

How this all started:

Thirteen years ago, I downloaded SketchUp and tried to “poke around” and draw a room. I watched YouTube videos and managed to bubblegum a few 3D models together. But I developed some really bad habits, and my models were very unorganized. A loose workflow and a few tricks helped me get through design school. However, once I started using SketchUp on real-world projects, my bad habits caught up with me. It took me too long to draw and make edits throughout projects.

I had the same thought that may have brought you to this website…
There must be a better way.

So, I buckled down and made it my mission to learn the ins and outs of SketchUp and tighten my workflow. Now…I’m confident that SketchUp can serve me through any design project from start to finish.

Some interior design friends asked me, “Can you show me how you use SketchUp?” I excitedly sat down to show them…but quickly overwhelmed them with too many details. I realized it would be better to record my process and then explain it to them so they could use it in a more methodical way. Because of that, SketchUp for Interior Designers was born. Now, I’ve been teaching SketchUp for nearly nine years. I love teaching and the people that I get to work with. Whether you are a complete beginner who isn’t sure where to start or an intermediate user who wants better habits and organization…I’m ready and excited to help you learn SketchUp too!
